At a time when critical infrastructure is increasingly under threat from complex large scale hazards, the Electric Sector Black Sky Resilience Conference—hosted by Exelon, PJM, and the EIS Council—brought together global energy leaders to confront the urgent challenges of grid resilience head-on.
Held as a high-impact gathering of utility executives, policymakers, and resilience experts, the event was centered around one unifying theme: resilience must go beyond reliability.

Through immersive crisis simulations and expert-led discussions, participants explored the vulnerabilities of today’s electric grid in the face of Black Sky hazards—catastrophic events capable of disrupting lifeline infrastructures on a national or even continental scale.
Key topics included:
Blackstart capabilities and the readiness of power systems to recover after a complete shutdown
Resource adequacy under extreme conditions
Emergency communications across sectors and jurisdictions

More than just a conference, the event acted as a collaborative launchpad for real-world innovation. Cross-sector dialogue and scenario-based planning fostered actionable strategies to enhance national resilience—bridging the gap between awareness and preparedness.
As the energy landscape grows more interdependent and volatile, the insights and initiatives sparked at the Black Sky Resilience Conference reaffirm a vital truth: building resilience is not optional. It is essential, and it begins with collaboration, foresight, and a commitment to think beyond the expected.

Modern conflict increasingly unfolds across two parallel arenas: the physical battlefield and the digital domain. While missiles, drones, and precision strikes remain visible components of warfare, a second layer of conflict often unfolds through cyber operations and infrastructure disruption. In this evolving landscape, grid security has emerged as a critical concern. Electric power systems underpin […]
In every crisis, whether a cyberattack, natural disaster, or infrastructure failure, information moves faster than operations. Decisions are made in minutes, public behavior shifts in seconds, and trust becomes the invisible system holding everything together. But today, truth itself is under pressure. Misinformation spreads faster than verified facts. AI-generated deepfakes blur the line between real […]
Happy New Year. Welcome to 2026. Resilience rarely makes the list of New Year’s resolutions, yet it may be the most important one you can make. Today, much of the U.S. population lives in disaster-prone regions. Hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and extended power outages are no longer rare scenarios. Despite this, most people are still […]
