“The world is changing.
Truth is vanishing.
War is coming.”
— Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning
This quote may be a line from one of Hollywood’s new blockbusters, but it is resonating eerily with today’s headlines.
Change…
The pace of tech-driven change in our world is breathtaking. New-tech is nudging its way into all the infrastructures that power our world and sustain our lives.
Truth…?
The rapid expansion of AI into every corner of our civilization is accelerating this societal shift. It’s also powering a flood of “fake news.” Sorting out truth from fiction – always a challenge – is becoming nearly impossible.
War.
“The world is changing. Truth is vanishing …” and predictions and preparations for war – global war – are quietly, rapidly accelerating. In fact, an honest look at today’s reality might conclude – we’re nearly there. According to the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Global Risk Report, there are more than 110 armed conflicts already going on in the world today.
In short, as the “President” in the new Mission Impossible movie warns, the risk is extreme. We may not have much time.
In the face of this, what can be done?
The same tools that are bringing us AI and driving unprecedented change can give us the opportunity – if we take it — to give the infrastructures that power our lives rock-solid resilience against even the most extreme scenarios. A handful of dedicated NGOs and corporations are driving these opportunities. Among them, the Electric Infrastructure Security Council has become a recognized leader.

Happy New Year. Welcome to 2026. Resilience rarely makes the list of New Year’s resolutions, yet it may be the most important one you can make. Today, much of the U.S. population lives in disaster-prone regions. Hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and extended power outages are no longer rare scenarios. Despite this, most people are still […]
Cities today sit at the crossroads of unprecedented pressure. Urban systems that once operated independently now behave like tightly interwoven networks. A single point of failure in one urban sector can ripple into others within minutes, creating disruptions that are difficult to contain and even harder to recover from. Climate extremes, aging infrastructure, cyber disruptions, […]
On November 4, 2025, the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center recorded a powerful X1.8-class solar flare erupting from active region AR 4274, now turning directly toward Earth. Within minutes, the flare triggered an R3 (Strong) radio blackout, disrupting high-frequency communications across large sunlit areas.Initial modeling showed that Earth narrowly avoided a direct hit from the flare’s […]
